Antonio Ordoņez died in seville of liver cancer at the age of 66 years on 19th December 1998. At the height of his career he was described as the best bullfighter in the world. He expressed his wish to die in Ronda (Malaga), his own birthplace and that of Pedro Romero, the legendary 18th century bullfighter. His body was cremated and his ashes sprinkled on the bullring at Ronda.
