WEG 2002

World Equestrian Games 2002

7 equestrian disciplines!

Reining is newly recognised by the International Equestrian Federation as the seventh discipline.

Typically called "western dressage", the competition (held in the second week) will judge the athletic abilities of ranch type horses.

Reining horses can be of any breed, sex, colour or size.

WEG 2002 will be the largest event organised in the equestrian world. Over one thousand horses and riders will take part from at least fifty countries arround the world. For the first time in history, Jerez de la Frontera will host seven world championships:

  • showjumping
  • dressage
  • driving
  • eventing
  • endurance
  • vaulting
  • reining

All the events and competitions will take place in two areas: the urban zone of Chapin, which is located just to the east of the town only 3km from the old town itself, and the country zone of Garrapilos, some 17 kms away from Jerez.

An international fairground with 25.000 sq.ms of stands will complement the activities to give the family some extra fun.
