Horse hair mosqueros are hand made in various combinations of grey, black, white and brown. Prices depend upon number of tassles and colours.

You often see the cabeza vaquera con mosquero de cerda in competitions and at festival times. These are horse hair rather than the typical leather fringes.

The tradition of using the mosquero probably comes from the north-african tribes in the 10th century who would adorn the front of the horse's head.
