Peña Flamenca La Zua: one of the authentic and unpretentious flamenco clubs in Jerez de la Frontera, on the outskirts in Calle Albadalejo, Barbadillo district. |
Jerez de la Fronteraperformances on a Saturday night vary throughout the year, but there is spontaneous singing at the bar sometimes....This flamenco club fosters authenticity and welcoms aficionados or visitors alike. It is not always given either the status or the patronage of the town council since other flamenco clubs are more influential and wealthy, but precisely because it has an unpretentious working class base, it is arguably one of the most authentic flamenco clubs currently in Jerez de la Frontera. Flamenco at its best... out of town, not in the centre! Almost like the divide between in-town and country, "pueblo" versus "campo" in its approach to flamenco. Any serious flamenco visitor should visit. |

This is the typical rough and ready flamenco bulletin board...notices stuck onto the outside wall of the flamenco club in the street with sticky tape! The best way to spread local flamenco news apart from word of mouth! In this case there are flamenco classes, the programme for the Fiesta de la Buleria on 13th Sept 2008 in the bullring, and a local flamenco show in the centre for old age people on 4th Oct. at 6pm. This is the authentic flamenco you will find locally, often unknown to visitors whose only point of contact is the tourist information centre.
There is also an internal flamenco notice board for all the serious stuff, such as flamenco singing competitions. |

Each year the flamenco club La Zua has a Christmas party with firstly a flamenco show, mostly local or invited singers, then later the serious business of eating and drinking, cutting the ham and continuing merriment with the flamenco Christmas Zambomba. click here for more info on the zambomba, famous in Jerez. |
