year 2001 with Maria Pagès

Juan Manuel Cañizares was born in Sabadell in 1966, and was encouraged early on by his father to study the guitar more in depth together with his brother Rafael.

By 1989 he started touring with the group El último de la fila, subsequently collaborating with other musicians and singers both flamenco and other styles including Camarón, Morente, Marc Almond, Serrat, La Fura dels Baus, Michael Brecker, Al Di Mieola among others.However the turning point of his career was his encounter with Paco de Lucia. He joined a trio with Paco de lucia and José María Bandera that toured extensively between 1989 and 1992.

His current work is technically excellent and musically unusual - definitely not mainstream flamenco.
