Teatro de Verano Saturday 25th July 2003 A paradise indeed for those mad about flamenco!	The Teatro de Verano is set in beautiful botanical gardens and occasionally hosts flamenco dance and song. The Alegrías dance competition is considered to be prestigious for any who reach it. This year there was no category for group dances, which is a shame since such presentations are colourful and interesting. I also think that flamenco dance schools should be allowed to branch into group choreography with more experimentation (while avoiding the ballroom type of glitz...) The town council has also introduced a new flamenco singing category: the first Concurso de Canta para Jovenes, for young talent. Consequently we have to sit through an enormous amount of flamenco during the night, so as to hear all the singing finalists as well as watch all the flamenco dance contenders. They should really separate the finals into two nights.

Baluarte de la Candelaria Jueves Flamencos Cadiz Flamenco Thursdays from mid July to end August 2003 (10pm)	Jueves Flamencos (Flamenco Thursdays) are organised by the Peña Flamenca el Mellizo de Cadiz (Flamenco Club) together with the Town Council each year. The Jueves Flamencos are held in the Baluarte de la Candelaria, through the old town across the cobbled stone roads, but keep the Bay of Cadiz on your right. Most perfomers are singers, but each night has a dance group in the middle of the programme, so be prepared to sit up late on hard chairs, or stand at the sides.
