Sanlucar de la Barrameda, Cadiz - song and dance competition june/july 2002 in the Plaza de la Victoria Fridays and Saturdays (throughout July) until the final on 20th July 2002 in the Teatro Municipal in the town, at which la Macanita has been invited to sing. |

A young dancer with a great future, Jesica (sometimes spelt Yesica) brought the house down with her Solea. She exhibited a maturity uncommon in someone so young. Impeccable compás, complete control of her group in accompaniment, elegant feminine postures, as well as strong rhythmic footwork in the catharsis of the Bulería, so typical of Jerez.

the dancer from Cadiz, Lorena Sanchez Alsina danced por Alegrías and por Tientos y Tangos she is a sensitive and mature dancer with a modern style, neverthrless true to the flamenco roots. |

the only male dancer to present himself: Fco. Garcia Bermudez (his first appearance in a public competition.)

Maria Moreno Perez danced por Alegrías and por Seguiriya. She is the youngest contestant at only 15 years of age. She won the second prize.

Maria Andrades danced Alegrias with the largest group to accompany her in the competition, including a flautist and percussionist, two singers and three handclappers.

| The stage! |
Other contestants in the dance category were a young Elizabet and Noelia Jimenez, the latter evoking memories of the style of dance portrayed by Encarnación Lopez "La Argentinita." She danced por Alegrias with an orange bata de cola and green manton, at times too large for the stage area provided. Perhaps next year the organising committee will provide a stronger and less undulating stage suitable for the dancers. As the competition progressed some cracks appeared in the tablas, the dancers literally stamping their imprint on Sanlucar flamenco... |
